Urlaub in Südeuropa – für viele ein sicheres und zugleich traumhaftes Reiseziel. Aber was, wenn es plötzlich brennt am Horizont? Und das Feuer kommt direkt auf Sie zu! So erging es der Filmemacherin Katrin Reichwald 2017 in einem abgelegenen, portugiesischen Dorf. Mit ihrem Mann und ihren zwei kleinen Kindern gelingt ihr die Flucht vor den Flammen. Doch 66 Menschen sterben durch den verheerendsten Waldbrand in der Geschichte Portugals. Das Land steht unter Schock. Die Welt berichtet. Spätestens seit dem letzten Jahr gehören Waldbrände rund um den Globus zum Bild des Sommers. Doch die Gründe für die wachsende Bedrohung sind unterschiedlich. Nicht selten hat der Mensch das Ausmaß selbst in der Hand. She must flee the flames with her family from the small village Ferraria. Despite the danger, the villagers decide to stay to fight for their homes. They all survive. But 66 people die elsewhere, shocking the Nation. Like many other villages, Ferraria is surrounded by extremely flammable eucalyptus forests, planted for the booming paper industry. The 37 villagers initiate a project that shall bring them closer together as a community while defending themselves from the consequences of globalization and climate change.
